Excited to take on Race Across The World: The Experience in Manchester? We’re with you!
We thought long and hard about which UK city would be second to receive a race, but in the end, we just couldn’t resist the temptations of Manchester.
Here are just 6 reasons why Manchester is the perfect city for Race Across The World: The Experience, and some of them might just surprise you…
1) Manchester’s Culture Scene is Absolutely Thriving
It seems to us that no matter which area of culture you look at, Manchester is headlining at the moment. Sport? Football, of course, but more besides. Food? Incredible cuisine from all over the world at your fingertips. Music? There’s more to that than Oasis.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Things are happening in Manchester, we want to share them with you!

2) There Are Loads of Really Great Independent Businesses Worth Visiting
We can’t just restrict mentioning the food and drinks scene in Manchester to one point.
There’s just no escaping the fact that you can get your hands on food and drink from every corner of the world in Manchester, and to an impeccable standard.
Even better, there are so many great pubs, cafes and quirky hangout spaces dotted around that we had a really hard time narrowing down our pool of checkpoint venues (who have kindly offered all racing teams an exclusive discount!).

3) You’ve (Probably) Never Explored It This Deeply Before
Did you know that Manchester is the second most-visited city in England besides London?
According to some statistics, Greater Manchester receives around 4.2 million domestic overnight visits annually. But just one day (and night) isn’t enough to see everything this city has to offer. And locals, there are things hiding in plain sight here that even you probably haven’t noticed before.
A huge part of Race Across The World: The Experience is about darting between iconic landmarks and discovering the lesser-known secrets that lurk in Manchester’s streets and ginnels, if you’re prepared to work out where they might be…

4) It’s One of The Most Accessible Cities in The UK
We want to make Race Across The World: The Experience as accessible to as many people as possible, and that also means positioning ourselves in places that are easy to get to.
Even though public transport is off-limits during the game, we really encourage teams to use it to get to the start location and to get home after the experience, if possible. It’s better for the planet, which is better for all of us!

5) Manchester Has Global Spirit with a Local Soul
We touched on this earlier when we mentioned Manchester’s incredible food scene, but there’s a lot more to a thriving cultural scene than just cuisine.
A study from 2013 found that 40-50% of Manchester’s population are likely to be multilingual, and an estimated 20,000 of the books in the city’s libraries are in languages other than English.
Manchester’s history is truly a global one that has impacted the world, for better and for worse, and the city’s pulse is one that beats through all of its citizens. The city is a hive of activity that has contributions from all kinds of people and places, and we think it’s worth celebrating.

6) The Weather Really Isn’t as Bad as People Say
Knew we’d shock you with this one!
Manchester might have copped the unkind nickname of “The Rainy City” but statistically speaking, you’re no more likely to be in a downpour here than a lot of other places in the country.
Apparently, the wettest place in the UK is Styhead in the Lake District, with an average annual rainfall of 4590mm.
Just like the show, however, Race Across The World: The Experience runs rain or shine, so you’d be wise to pack an umbrella and some waterproofs if the forecast gives you enough warning!
