There are two types of people: those who pack several weeks before a trip, adding their belongings in neat, tidy piles, and those who throw the bare essentials in a bag two minutes before heading out the door.

The good news is Race Across The World: The Experience fits both of these approaches, and since you already know the end destination is somewhere within the City of London or Manchester city centre, you know you can (probably!) leave your thermal undies at home!
That said, there are some things we’d recommend you bring along for your adventure. Here they are, starting with the essentials…
- Your Teammates: Race Across The World: The Experience is a team event. You need at least one other person to participate, and we’d advise you to pick wisely!
- Your Mobile Phone: This is the one thing you cannot do Race Across The World: The Experience without. Why? Because it acts like your GPS tracker in that you need to receive and send messages to uncover your route.
However, the only app you’ll need during the race is WhatsApp, and maybe a calculator. Remember, no public transport and no maps necessary!
Read more details about How The Race Works. - A Power Bank, Battery Pack or Phone Charger: Start the race with 100% battery if you can, but if that’s impossible, make sure you’ve got a way to refuel your phone. Like we said, it’s a must!

- Weather-Appropriate Attire: As much as we hope you’ll get glorious sunshine or clement weather while your experience unfolds, we can’t guarantee it. This is the UK, after all, so just make sure you’re ready whatever the sky might decide to do!
In warm weather, that could mean a cap or a sun hat, sunscreen and a bottle of water to stay hydrated.
In cooler or rainy weather, make sure you keep warm and protect yourself from the elements with a brolly or a rain jacket. - Comfortable Shoes: If you like to see your step count reach above 10,000+, you’re in luck.
Race Across The World: The Experience is a foot race, so there’s a lot of walking involved. We also have an accessible route available for wheelchair users. In total, you can expect to be on the go for around 2-3 hours, longer if you wish to take longer breaks at checkpoints. - Pocket Money: Speaking of checkpoints, when you reach one, you have the option of taking a breather or grabbing some food and/or drink at your leisure before setting off on the next leg. The timer pauses here, so feel free to refresh as long as you need!
The only time you’ll have to pay for anything extra while on the experience is if you wish to buy food or drinks at checkpoint venues. These have discounts for race goers, so make the most of them!

- Snacks: Of course, if you want to be super organised and pack your own snacks to sustain you and your team on your adventure, feel free to do so! After all, hangry racers are unhappy racers!
- Fancy Dress (OPTIONAL): Weather and comfort permitting, there’s nothing stopping you from dressing up for the experience if you want to (don’t worry, there’s no obligation!).
You could go for a classic ‘adventurer’ look with a giant backpack, theme your outfit around the experience like the team below, or even lug around a giant case on wheels if that’s ‘your bag’, so to speak.
We love to see your creativity in photo submissions, so if you like fancy dress, you know what to do.
