The Getting “Lost” Guide for Race Across The World: The Experience

Race Across The World: The Experience isn’t all about winning: there’s more to discover and help to be had if you find yourself “lost”!

Race Across The World: The Experience is a live adventure that happens in real time, with you and your team at the epicentre. Just like the hit TV show, the action happens on real streets where real people are going about their daily lives.

Armed with nothing but a race pack, a virtual in-game budget and your teammates, you’ll have to make it between three checkpoints until you reach your final puzzle that unlocks the coveted guestbook, whether that’s in the City of London, London’s West End or Manchester

But between now and that moment of victory, there’s a whole journey to unfold and memories to be made! Of course, this may include wandering off a bit or finding yourself bamboozled, but don’t worry, help is always at hand!

Read on as we explore what getting “lost” on Race Across The World: The Experience means (and in some cases, how to avoid it!).

Start Off on The Right Foot

Before you even begin the race, there are a couple of things you need to do to make sure your day runs as smoothly as possible.

First on that list is getting your teams set up before heading to the start location. This is super simple and can be done 7 days in advance of joining the race. If you have any issues logging in to your dashboard or getting set up, you can always reach out to us by email or via WhatsApp.

Secondly, you’ll want to make sure you come prepared. Charge your phone (or bring a charger), wear comfy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather, and you’ll be good to go!

Choose Your Directions Carefully

One of the best things about Race Across The World: The Experience is how adaptable it is.

At the beginning of each leg, you and your team will have to decide between two sets of character guides. One is expensive yet straightforward, the other is cheap but cryptic.

You decide if you stick to one approach over the other or if you choose a blend of both.

Remember, if you’re not overly into puzzles or you’d prefer a more relaxed race, opt for the more expensive option.

Use In-Game Prompts to Get Help

If you think you’re going the wrong way or you need another hint to get you past a tricky puzzle, help is at hand! Simply message “HINT” to get another clue or “LOST” to get GPS directions that bring you back to where you’re supposed to be.

Yes, these options come with a time penalty (it is a race, after all!) but it’s all part of the game and hey, there’s more than one way to win Race Across The World: The Experience!

Obscured Clues and Hidden Hints

Like we said at the start, Race Across The World: The Experience is a live adventure that plays out on the city streets.

This has some great upsides, like keeping the experience as real as it gets: everything you see, discover or pass along the way is entirely authentic.

On the other hand, very occasionally, an unexpected spanner might be thrown in the works that throws you off. If temporary scaffolding is obstructing your path or there’s something blocking a clue, reach out to us and let us know.

In areas that we anticipate closures (e.g. public parks with opening times) there will be an alternative route available. You will be prompted to send “CLOSED” to help you more forward.

Spending Time at Checkpoint Venues

During the race, you’ll be given the opportunity to visit lovely local businesses, typically pubs, cafés or bars.

This is where you’ll collect physical puzzles en route, and once you’ve cracked it, you’ll get a chance to pull up a seat and enjoy a drink and/or something to eat (and there are discounts available for teams on the race!).

Don’t worry about the timer: it pauses while you’re on a break and you won’t be able to complete any work tasks (that’s cheating!). Make sure you allow for additional time if you want to make the most of the checkpoints, time flies while you’re having fun!

Explore at Your Own Pace

It might be called Race Across The World: The Experience, but there’s nothing stopping you from enjoying it at whatever pace that suits you, even if it means coming last.

Take the pressure off your team’s shoulders and allow yourselves the joy of just getting “lost” in the moment. If something intrigues you or if you’d like to do a bit of independent exploring, by all means do so! There’s no way to pause the timer, but once you’re finished, just go back to wherever you got your last clue and take it from there.
