Find out how budgeting works in Race Across The World: The Experience.

Race Across The World: The Experience is the official experience of the hit TV show, and fans will get the chance to come up against many of the same challenges that they’ve seen on their screens…including budgeting.

All teams start off with the same balance and have to manage their own in-game budget to conquer the race and the leaderboard, but how exactly does that work?

Read on to find out how budgeting works in Race Across The World: The Experience, and in case you’re wondering, this part of the game is the same whether you decide to race in the City of London, London’s West End or Manchester

Let’s get into it!

Everyone Gets The Same Start Balance

At the beginning of the race, all teams (regardless of team size) are given the same starting balance of £30 virtual credit.

This isn’t real currency, and it cannot be supplemented with real cash (as we’ll explain later).

The only time you’ll ever have to spend real additional money on the race is if you choose to purchase optional food/drink at checkpoint venues, and you’ll be glad to hear they come with a discount!

How to Spend Your In-Game Currency

At the start of each leg of the race, teams will be offered directions from two guides. One will be more expensive, and the other is cheaper.

The main difference here is that the expensive directions are more straightforward, while the cheaper directions are more cryptic and will require some out-of-the-box thinking.

Why would you ever choose the hard option, I hear you ask? Well, if you decide to always go for the more expensive option, you’ll quickly run out of money, so you’ll need to work to supplement it.

How Does “Work” Work in Race Across The World: The Experience?

If your team finds itself with a dwindling budget, you’ll be able to “work” to regain some of your funds.

To do this, simply reply “Work” to receive additional puzzles and riddles. These are tricky brainteasers that are designed to test your logic, language and observation skills, and as long as you solve them quickly and correctly, you’ll earn a nice budget boost!

Just like in the TV show, you cannot work while you’re resting at a checkpoint, that’d be cheating!

Time Penalties and Checking Your Balance

All teams are allowed to make one penalty-free mistake, and you’ll get a warning that incorrect answers will add more time penalties to your overall score.

It’s always worth checking your answer before you send it, as autocorrect can unwittingly get you in trouble!

You’ll be able to check your balance when you’ve submitted an answer to a work clue or at the end of each leg.

Overall Scores Account For Race Times and Budget Remaining

Unlike the TV show, Race Across The World: The Experience takes into account a team’s overall race time and their budget remaining to determine their place on the leaderboard.

It’s simple, really: the faster you complete the race and the healthier your budget, the further up on the leaderboard you’re likely to place.

But if you don’t enjoy competitive games or feel like rushing around, don’t worry! Just ignore the timer and explore to your heart’s content.
