Race Across the World: The Experience is as much a battle of wits as it is stealth and speed. There’s only one way to get from checkpoint to checkpoint in your overall quest to hunt down the guest book, and that’s by solving the clues and puzzles that stand in your way as a team.

But what happens if you don’t know the answer or you need a helping hand?

No matter where you play Race Across the World: The Experience, the race is always self-guided via WhatsApp and it’s up to your team to make decisions that move you forward. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get help from us.

Here is the definitive guide to understanding the in-game prompts you can use to help you get ahead during the race!

The Five Text Prompts You Need to Know

Before you begin, you’ll be given five text prompts you may need to use during your race: HINT, LOST, SKIP, WORK, and VIRTUAL. Their functions are explained to you in your welcome message, so don’t panic if you can’t remember them after reading this.

HINT: Send “Hint” when you know the answer is in front of you but you need a helping hand figuring out where to look.

LOST: If you feel you’re definitely in the wrong place, sending “LOST” will deliver a map with coordinates to help you get back to the right location.

WORK: If your budget is dwindling or you want to give it a healthy boost, send “WORK” to receive an extra puzzle to solve in exchange for virtual budget.

VIRTUAL: Lost something in your race pack, or worse, left the envelope behind somewhere? Have no fear, the virtual puzzles are here! You’ll be sent photo versions of the puzzle.

HELP: Can’t remember what these prompts are and when to use them? Send “HELP” and we’ll remind you!

How Budget Penalties Work in Race Across the World: The Experience

To keep things competitive, sending HINT or LOST removes £2 from your budget each time you send it.

These prompts are there to help you, but you’d be wise to keep them to a minimum if you’d like to play competitively. After all, rebuilding your budget will also cost time and money (especially if you need a hint solving them, too!).

Select Your Guide Wisely

At the start of each leg, your team will have to make a choice between two guides. Both will offer you directions to your next checkpoint, but how they convey those directions and how effective they will be can be surmised by their price.

The more expensive option will always be slightly more straightforward, but remember to read the guide’s attributes carefully before making a decision. If you’re a local and one of the guides speaks in the local dialect, it could be a great chance to save some money if you think you can understand them.

On the other hand, you might have flown through the last leg and have some spare cash jingling in your virtual wallet, in which case, feel free to splurge!

How Competitive is Race Across the World: The Experience?

Like we said at the start, Race Across the World: The Experience is self-guided so it’s entirely up to you how competitive you want to be.

Teams can choose to play head-to-head live against other teams of their choice by combining bookings or splitting larger teams into smaller groups (a team must have a minimum of 2 players).

If you play as a single team, you’ll be paired with three other teams at random and go up against the overall leaderboard.

Alternatively, you can choose to ignore the timer and the leaderboards if you don’t want to rush or play competitively, but you will still need to keep an eye on your budget balance to complete the race.
