From the minute you collect your race pack to the second you sign your names in the guest book, you’ll be making all kinds of tricky decisions and weighing up a lot of options. In fact, you may be so busy discovering incredible things that you don’t even realise how much you’ve learnt!
Here are just seven lessons you’ll learn from completing the race, whether that’s in the City of London, London’s West End, Manchester, York, Edinburgh or Bristol. They might all be completely different races, but one thing that never changes is the quest for adventure!
Directions Aren’t Always As Straightforward as They Seem
Let’s start off literally. At the start of each leg, your team will have to choose which guide to invest your virtual budget in. Expensive guides offer more straightforward routes, whereas cheaper guides will probably be harder to decipher. Either way, they’ll both get you to your destination…after a fashion.
Whether they speak in the local dialect or they’re prone to giving random facts, each guide has been designed to showcase something unique about the area their way. There’s no right or wrong option, but you will have to put your heads together to figure out exactly what they mean!
Managing A Budget Can Be Done In So Many Ways
Save, spend, splurge, scrimp: the choice is yours! At the start of each race, you’ll be given an in-game budget to take you from here to there.
Like we said before, each guide is necessary to take you to your next checkpoint as no maps or public transport are allowed. This means you’ll have to figure out how your team can manage your budget best, whether that’s through spending and “working” to earn extra cash, or saving your pennies for when it really counts!
Teamwork Really Does Make The Dream Work
Race Across the World: The Experience is a game built for teams, whether that’s just 2 or 8 of you. Working together is the only way to get from the start to the finish, so it’s important you pick your fellow teammates wisely if you’re in it to win it!
Everyone’s insights will help bring you a step closer to your common goal of reaching the guest book, and don’t underestimate the power of communication. Who knows, someone else might have a different approach!
There’s So Much Hiding in Plain Sight
No public transport means hitting the city streets yourselves, and you know what that means: all the sights are yours for the taking.
Race Across the World: The Experience is a foot race (which can be made step-free), so you’ll see your surroundings with a totally different perspective than if you were rushing around behind windows or in tunnels.
Look up, down, left and right before moving on, there are wonders lurking in very unexpected places!
It’s Not Always Bad to Feel Lost
All being well, you won’t get lost while racing! But if you do think you’ve strayed too far, help is always at hand.
Race Across the World: The Experience is entirely self-guided from start to finish, and that’s as it should be. This is your race, so you should be able to complete it how you like! That said, you can always get help by using in-game prompts or sending us a message (you will be given directions for how to do so when you begin the race).
Bear in mind that part of the charm of racing across a city is discovering new places, so make the most of exploring while you’re out there! Yes, it’s a race – but only if you’re feeling extremely competitive. The timer will still run, but there’s nothing wrong with a sidequest here and there if something piques your interest en route.
If In Doubt, Try Another Way
At the beginning of the race, your team will collect a race pack containing vital parts of puzzles that will later become relevant. Don’t worry if they look like an odd assortment of objects, you’ll be told when to use them!
Physical puzzles are collected at checkpoints and are there to get your brains whirring. Puzzles come in all shapes and sizes and are themed around adventure and global cultures, so hopefully you’ll learn a thing or two once you’ve solved them.
Problem-solving is a key part of racing, and if you want to be crowned the winners, you’d better polish your thinking caps!
It’s About The Journey And The Destination
This is mostly for the very competitive players, but it’s something we can all learn from. Yes, the object of the experience is to reach the end, but don’t focus so hard on the finale that you miss all the good stuff in the middle!
Each race involves visiting three checkpoints that are there for you to be able to take stock, relax and enjoy yourselves. The timer pauses here so feel free to spend as long as you like.
