Incredibly, there are now three Race Across The World live experiences available to play, one in the City of London, another in Manchester, and the latest addition, a festive sprint through London’s West End.

While they all explore different cities or areas and involve solving unique physical puzzles and riddles, the game mechanics stay the same no matter where you choose to play.
That means you’ll always have to keep an eye on your budget, work closely as a team and choose your next steps carefully, but there are some transferable skills you can rely on to see you through to first place (if that’s what you’re after!).
We’ve been thinking a lot about the talents and unexpected skills teams have to utilise in their bid for first place on the leaderboard, so if you want to know how handy a teammate you’ll be, read on!
Unexpected Skill No. 1: Organisation
No, we’re not talking about whether you colour code your calendar or fold your socks, although, good for you if that is the case!
This is about organisation at its most basic yet complicated, namely, organising your friends, family or colleagues.
Having someone who can not only agree on a date and time for your race to take place, book your tickets, and make sure everyone’s on the same page about how the day will take shape is a very underrated skill that will definitely ensure your team starts off on the right foot!

Unexpected Skill No. 2: Mental Maths
Don’t worry, nobody’s going to confine you to a checkpoint if you can’t quickly deduct sums or remember your times tables, but having someone who can do those things might make life just a little easier while solving some of the puzzles.
Just like in the show (and the real world!), reading timetables, currency exchanges, and working out how much of your budget you can afford to spend or need to gain back is definitely something that’ll keep you in good stead for Race Across The World: The Experience!

Unexpected Skill No. 3: Patience
In less groundbreaking news… Patience is a skill that gets you pretty far no matter what you’re up to.
In the context of the race, however, it can be a gamechanger. Maybe things aren’t going quite as you planned or you’ve decided to play the long game, or maybe you’re just really great at taking your time over ensuring everything’s in order before heading off.
Any and all of these scenarios will feel so much better if you’ve got patience on your side!

Unexpected Skill No. 4: Foreign Languages
As every fan of the show knows, having a few stock phrases of another language (or, why not, multiple languages) in your wheelhouse can be an accelerant akin to a jetpack while on the race.
Race Across The World: The Experience might be set in cities across the UK, but plenty of the puzzles feature words or references to other languages and cultures.
Don’t worry, there are alternative ways to reach the correct answer (like deducing riddles, perhaps), but you might just find you have a sneaky headstart if you’re lucky!

Unexpected Skill No. 5: A Keen Eye For Detail
If you’re somebody who loved playing spot the difference on the back of a cereal box as a child or can never be fooled by before and after photos, you’re in luck!
All three of the Race Across The World live experiences involve searching your surroundings for clues, although they may come in multiple shapes and sizes.
Search high, low, left and right until you find what you’re looking for…or just rely on your formidable teammate to do it for you!

Unexpected Skill No. 6: Collaboration
We’re not undermining leadership skills (which are also important in the race), but being willing and happy to collaborate with your fellow team members can make all the difference.
In Race Across The World: The Experience, your teammates are your greatest asset, and whether you might lack knowledge, ideas or just a sense of what to do next, knowing who can help is a real asset to any team.
Just as the funniest person in a group isn’t necessarily the person who tells the joke the loudest or to the most people, the best team player might not be the one who gets all the recognition!

Unexpected Skill No. 7: Improvisation
If all else fails, improvise!
The race experience is just like the TV show in that all sorts of unexpected obstacles can turn up like queues, busy streets, or weather changes. Obviously, you can prepare for a downpour by bringing along a brolly (check out our other race essentials and packing list here), but sometimes, you’ll need to put your thinking caps on.
Don’t know the answer or somehow managed to get lost? Don’t worry, there’s in-game help for that. Messed up and splurged when you should have saved? Get some work puzzles under your belt!
