There are now SIX Race Across The World: The Experiences available to play across the UK, two in London, and one each in Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol, and last but not certainly not least, York.
If you’ve participated in Race Across the World: The Experience in another location before, you’ll recognise key features. If not, the ultimate high stakes adventure lies ahead!
The rules and game mechanics might be the same across all six locations, but there’s plenty about the York race that can’t be replicated anywhere else. Read on to find out what they are!

Small but mighty, York is at the top of so many people’s lists when it comes to favourite UK cities. And that’s as it should be.
We’re big fans too, not least because it’s an incredible location to set Race Across the World: The Experience.
Much of York’s many-layered history is in plain sight. We all know that everyone from the Romans to the Vikings have vied for this precious space and fought battles to claim it as their own. And that’s before we even get started on the Wars of The Roses. But believe us when we say there’s also a lot you won’t have seen before…locals included.

We never want to give away any spoilers to those who don’t want any, so if you don’t even want the teensiest hint about what’s to come, skip ahead!
But if you do want a little sneak peek of what the physical puzzles are going to look like…well, we’re happy to give a hint here and there.
All the physical puzzles you’ll solve on the race are inspired by travel, adventure and testing a core skill, be it observational, logic, or spotting patterns.
Suffice to say, for the race in York, you can expect a blend of puzzles that get you to look at the world through a different “lens” (in more ways than one). That’s it, that’s your hint!
Yorkshire Spirit, Global Influences
All Race Across the World experiences are unique to the city or location they’re based in, and with York, we’ve truly been spoiled for choice.
One of the key game mechanics involves players buying directions from “passersby”, and your chances of topping the leaderboard largely hinges on choosing your guide wisely.
In total, you’ll be offered 6 different guides throughout the race, each a character that embodies something intrinsic to this iconic city. This will impact how they communicate with you, and your ability to understand them…
You can only use three of them, so have a think before confirming your choice!
Epic Local Checkpoints, The York Way
Throughout the race, you’ll get the chance to visit three incredible local venues that are crucial to making the Race Across The World live experiences what they are.
They give teams somewhere to regain their energy, sip or sup on a drink or a bite to eat (many with a discount!) and it’s also where you pick up physical puzzles along the way. We couldn’t do it without them, and we’re passionate about giving local businesses the spotlight they deserve.

Snickelways, Secrets and Surprises
As previous teams of Race Across the World: The Experience will attest, it’s incredible what you can discover if you only take the time to look (and really think about) what surrounds you. And we’re not just talking about visitors, either.
Locals, tourists, visitors: all are welcome to take part in Race Across the World: The Experience in York. The race can be made family and dog-friendly, as well as step-free.
Of course, the most iconic York landmarks will still be there in plain sight. You’ll start in the thick of things in The Shambles, and you’ll certainly see York Minster, Clifford’s Tower and many more places you recognise.
But you’ll see them in a new light, and you’ll also uncover plenty of hidden secrets you never had any idea existed.
