There are now SIX Race Across The World: The Experiences available to play across the UK, two in London, and one each in Manchester, York, Bristol, and, of course, Edinburgh.
All of the available Race Across the World experiences are the official live experiences of the hit TV show, so the format stays the same no matter where you participate in the race. But that doesn’t mean that it’s the same race no matter where you play!
The rules and game mechanics might be the same across all six locations, but Edinburgh is its very own city with its own quirks, mysteries and hidden gems so don’t be fooled: there’s plenty about this race that can’t be replicated anywhere else. Here they are!
The First Race Across the World Experience in The Scottish Capital
Race Across the World: The Experience has been a huge hit no matter where it’s landed so far, and we know the expectations for Edinburgh are huge. After all, this is the capital of Scotland we’re talking about!
As luck would have it, we’re just as obsessed with this city as the next person. It’s no mistake that Edinburgh’s got a reputation for being spellbinding, what with its magical, mysterious and miraculous history lurking in plain sight.
But even if you think you know every nook and cranny in Edinburgh better than your own home, we can almost guarantee that we’ve managed to uncover some hitherto unknown surprises (and yes, locals, we’re talking to you, too!).

We don’t blame you for wanting to take a sneak peek at what’s next, especially when it comes to the physical, escape room style-puzzles. You’ll never be able to glean the answers from what we’re about to say, but a subtle hint here or there doesn’t hurt.
All we’re prepared to say is be prepared! The physical puzzles in this race are all inspired by travel, adventure and testing a particular skill, be it observational, logic, or spotting patterns.
And as a final sneaky clue…let’s just say that you’ll be well-equipped to plot your next destination, as long as you remember time is money…
Local Lingo and Home-Grown Guides
Every Race Across the World Experience is a blend of local and global. Yes, you’re discovering what’s on your doorstep and scurrying around streets that might feel familiar to you, but we also include plenty of influences from all over the world throughout the race.
One of the key game mechanics involves players “buying” directions from “passersby” using virtual currency, and you’ll have to spend your in-game budget wisely if you want to top the leaderboard.
In total, you’ll be offered 6 different guides throughout the race, each a character that embodies something intrinsic to Edinburgh, whether that’s cultural, historical, tangible or sometimes, all three.
Your choice of guides will open up a route that only this person would take you down, and you’ll have to deduce the meaning of their words to be able to follow their instructions. Choose wisely!
The Flavour of Edinburgh: Incredible Local Checkpoints
You’ll visit three incredible local checkpoints throughout Race Across the World: The Experience in Edinburgh, and they are crucial to making the experiences work.
We’re passionate about giving local businesses the spotlight they deserve and we hope you are too. We couldn’t do it without them, and even if we could, it wouldn’t be as enjoyable if they weren’t involved!
Checkpoints take the form of local venues, e.g. cafés, pubs or bars where you can rest up with a drink or a bite to eat (make sure you use any exclusive discounts that are available to you!).
You’ll also pick up a physical puzzle from checkpoint venues, and the timer pauses while you visit so you can enjoy your break guilt-free!
Winding Wynds and Venerable Vennels for Everyone
If there’s one thing we’re proud of, it’s how many teams tell us that they discovered something new about a city or location during the race.
We built Race Across the World: The Experience for everyone; locals, visitors, and tourists alike. As long as you play in teams of 2-8 players, tickets are purchased by adults (18+) and children are accompanied by adults, it’s up to you who you bring on the race.
The race can be made family and dog-friendly, as well as step-free. Simply select your needs when setting up your race.
Race Across the World: The Experience is a live adventure on Edinburgh’s city streets. Everything happens in real time with real people in real locations. You’ll see old favourites such as the Scott Monument, Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle, but you’ll be seeing them in a whole new light. You’ll also be hunting down some incredible hidden gems along the way.
